The Students' Union President is the primary spokesperson of the Students' Union. This position oversees all the other executives, as well as the organization's strategy, operations, employees, advocacy and more! This wide-ranging position is responsible for an enormous range of tasks, including heading major initiatives, working with the Board of Governors and the General Faculties Council and advocating on behalf of students to the University administration and all levels of government.

My name is Joseph Sesek (he/him), and I am honoured to serve as the primary spokesperson of the Students’ Union on the University of Alberta Board of Governors, the General Faculties Council, and to all levels of government.

The role of the SU President is massive (overseeing the organization’s strategy, operations, and advocacy), but my core philosophy is simple: I work for you. Whether I am fighting for affordability, better campus safety, or longer library hours, the goal is always to deliver meaningful, positive change.

But I cannot make this change in a vacuum. I am incredibly lucky to work alongside an executive team of intelligent and driven Vice Presidents who share this exact commitment, and more importantly, we need your excitement and solidarity to make a real difference this year.

This is your Students’ Union. If you have ideas, concerns, or just want to talk about how we can improve our campus, my door is open. Reach out to me anytime in my office at SUB or at president@uasu.ca.

The Vice-President Academic is responsible for all advocacy related to academic issues at the University of Alberta. This position sits on many board and committees, including the Students' Union Policy Committee, the General Faculties Council, multiple GFC standing committees and subcommittees, the Council of Faculty Associations and its working groups and more. It works closely with all of the student faculty and department associations to ensure that students receive the best possible education at the University of Alberta.

Susan Huseynova (she/her) is your 2026/27 UASU Vice-President Academic. She is a third-year student studying a Bachelor of Science in Immunology and Infection with a minor in Political Science, and she is passionate about making the University experience more responsive to the needs of undergraduates.

Before joining the Students’ Union Executive, Susan served as Vice-President Academic for the Interdepartmental Science Students’ Society. In that role, she worked closely with students and saw firsthand the challenges many of them face, which inspired her to run in the UASU elections and advocate for students at a broader institutional level.

Susan cares deeply about strengthening the academic experience at the University of Alberta and making sure students’ concerns are meaningfully represented. She is committed to working on issues that affect the everyday lives of students, like defining the regulations around artificial intelligence use and restructuring how advocacy looks alongside faculty groups.

Outside of her work in student governance, Susan enjoys spending time with friends turning the most ridiculous questions into lively debates, experimenting with new recipes in the kitchen, reading, travelling, and spending time with her sister and parents.

During her term, Susan is committed to working alongside her team to advance student priorities, improve the academic experience, and foster a university where students feel heard, supported, and empowered.

If you have any questions or would like to learn more about the supports available to you, please don’t hesitate to email her at vp.academic@uasu.ca.

The Vice-President External is focused primarily on external advocacy, working with the municipal, provincial and federal governments on issues that impact students, such as tuition, financial aid, and student debt. The person in this position frequently meets with MLAs and MPs to advocate on behalf of students. The "VPX" works closely with post-secondary lobby groups, including the Edmonton Student Alliance, Council of Alberta University Students and the Canadian Alliance of Student Associations.

Angelina Raina (she/her) is a student in the Combined Honors program in Political Science and Economics at the University of Alberta. Originally from Indian-administered Kashmir, she brings a strong interest in political theory, governance, and human rights to her academic and advocacy work. Alongside her studies, Angelina has developed a growing passion for coding, particularly as it relates to economic analysis and data-driven policy.

Angel has held a range of leadership roles focused on amplifying student voices and strengthening democratic engagement. She previously served as Chair of the City of Edmonton Youth Council, where she led initiatives examining community wellbeing, public spending, and access to social services. She has also worked as a Page at the Alberta Legislature and continues to be actively involved in advocacy spaces that center youth perspectives in decision-making.

This year, Angelina is focused on advancing student affordability and accessibility. Her priorities include advocating for the expansion of the Leisure Access Program to better include post-secondary students, pushing for safer and more reliable public transit, and supporting reforms aligned with the Mintz Panel recommendations to improve post-secondary funding in Alberta.

Outside of her academic and advocacy work, Angelina enjoys making origami and is always looking for increasingly intricate designs to try! She values connection and collaboration so students are very much encouraged to reach out with ideas, concerns, or questions at vp.external@uasu.ca.

Paige Wall (she/her) is your 2026/2027 UASU Vice-President Student Life. She is a third-year Bachelor of Kinesiology student at the University of Alberta and is originally from Prince Edward Island. As a first-generation university student who has lived on campus for the past three years, Paige understands how important it is to feel supported, connected, and at home in the university community, and she is passionate about helping build that sense of belonging for others.

During her time at the University of Alberta, Paige has been deeply involved in student leadership. She has served as the Kinesiology Representative on Students’ Council and as President of the East Campus Students’ Association, where she helped revive the association and rebuild engagement across residence. Through these roles, she has worked to improve student life, strengthen community, and advocate for students in ways that are meaningful and lasting.

Before university, Paige was involved in the Royal Canadian Air Cadet Program for six years, where she developed a strong sense of leadership, discipline, and service. Outside of school, she heads home each summer to work as a lobster fisher and enjoys hands-on work, being outdoors, and riding her motorcycle. These experiences have shaped her work ethic, resilience, and the grounded approach she brings to leadership.

During her term, Paige hopes to help students feel more connected, included, and supported in their university experience. She is especially passionate about student well-being, community building, and making the campus feel like a place where people can both succeed and belong.
